Jaymes Diaz does it again

The Coalition’s candidate for the crucial western Sydney seat of Greenway appears to have put his foot in it again, refusing to answer simple questions from a constituent.

Constituent and freelance radio producer Andrew Jaffrey confronted gaffe-prone Jaymes Diaz, asking why Mr Diaz had failed to show up to a candidates’ debate this week.

Mr Jaffrey detailed his encounter with Mr Diaz on Twitter, saying it was like Monty Python meets Benny Hill.

“Jaymes Diaz at Blacktown refusing to answer questions on policy. Just keeps saying "we're for families," he Tweeted.

The Tweets continued:

"What were your reasons for not going to the community forum?" "I've answered that question" "But I've only just asked you" "I've answered"

"Minder: "We're not answering any more questions at this time" "You haven't answered any". JD: "I'm here for families"

“Truly in 22 years of this stuff I've never come across such a bizarre candidate,” Mr Jaffrey said.

“I should point out that as someone living in Greenway I was just asking questions as a constituent - totally gob smacked by that.”

Mr Diaz has been in hiding since two bizarre encounters with media in the early days of the campaign.

In an excruciating interview earlier this month, Mr Diaz was unable to name the six points in the Coalition’s six point plan to stop the boats.

Following that, he was confronted again by the media in Western Sydney, where he refused to answer questions, instead just smiling and saying ‘we’re for families’, before walking away.

This week, Mr Diaz left voters angry when he failed to show up to a Greenway candidates forum in Blacktown.

He was the only major party candidate no to make it to the forum.

Greenway is held by Labor's Michelle Rowland by a margin of less than one per cent and is considered to crucial to both sides' chances of forming government.

Yesterday, NSW Labor secretary Sam Dastyari paid a visit to Mr Diaz’s empty electorate office.

“Diaz's office is empty. No number to call. No point of contact #WheresJaymesDiaz?” he tweeted.
