Shocking king-hit caught on camera

The shocking moment a man was knocked unconscious by a vicious punch in what appears to be an unprovoked attack has been captured on camera.

The assault happened outside a nightclub in Moorabool Street, Geelong, at around 12.30am on Saturday, May 11.

Police say the victim left the venue and was standing on the side of the road when a white, late model Holden Commodore, carrying around four or five male passengers, drove past and beeped the horn.

The victim was standing at the intersection of Moorabool and Brougham Streets when police say a vehicle pulled over.

The CCTV shows the victim have a brief discussion with a male passenger in the front seat, before he is punched in the face and knocked out, hitting his head on the footpath.

The man got back in the car and drove away, running over the victim's leg.

Senior Detective Mark Thomas said: "It appeared it was an unprovoked attack, it was an opportunistic attack.

"It was very callous in that once they knocked the male unconscious they just got back in the car. They didn't render him any assistance and they drove off, obviously running over his leg as well."

Onlookers tried to stop the vehicle as it drove off along Brougham Street.

The man was taken to hospital with bruising and cuts to his head and upper body and has since been released.

Unfortunately, the victim has no memory of the incident and police can not make out the number plates from the CCTV.

Police say they need public help to track down the offenders and have asked anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
