The search to find inspirational Melburnians who have gone that extra mile to make a positive contribution to our society is underway.

Nominations are now open for the 11th Anniversary Melbourne Awards.

The awards provides an opportunity to honour and celebrate Melbourne's high-achievers and community heroes, recognising their outstanding contributions in the areas of sustainability, community and the profile of the city.

Channel Seven Melbourne is a proud partner of the Melbourne Awards and invites you to nominate an individual or organisation that has gone above and beyond to help create a better Melbourne.

Lord Mayor Robert Doyle said the Melbourne Awards highlight the range of contributions that have helped to make Melbourne the world's most liveable city.

"For more than a decade, the Melbourne Awards have celebrated the inspirational stories and achievements of Melburnians from all walks of life for their respective contributions to making Melbourne one of the world's most desirable and unique cities for living and working.

"These are the people who so often don't seek recognition in their day-to-day life, but whose effort and determination inspire and challenge us all to help create a better Melbourne."

Past recipients have included iconic Melbourne events such as the Australian Open and the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, community groups including the Salvation Army and the Homeless Persons' Legal Clinic, and successful business personalities like Guy Grossi and Hatem Saleh

Included in the awards program this year is the Melburnian of the Year, an honour bestowed on an inspirational role model for his or her significant and sustained contribution to the Melbourne community.

Winners include Michael Gudinski, Harold Mitchell and Jim Stynes.

The Lord Mayor added: "Over the awards' history we have developed a proud community of some of the city's top ambassadors. This year we urge all Melburnians to take a moment to consider whether the work that they or another organisation is doing to help shape the future of Melbourne, and should be rewarded the city's top honour."

Now is your chance to give those individuals and organisations the recognition they deserve.

Nominations are now open until June 17 2013. Who will you nominate?
