Schoolie rushed to hospital after overdose

A 17-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after a suspected drug and alcohol overdose on the Gold Coast.

The Brisbane local was in Surfers Paradise over the weekend for the annual Schoolies event partying with his friends.

At approximately 7:45am, paramedics were called to a set of units where the boy was found unconscious.

He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Superintendent Paul Ziebarth said the case was particularly concerning, despite the quick response of the boy's friends and paramedics.

"It is concerning to hear of young people over indulging in alcohol and ingesting drugs," he said.

"One good thing is that his friends did the right thing and called an ambulance immediately.

"The fast response could have saved this boy's life."
