Sam Ibrahim walks free on bail

A member of Sydney's Ibrahim family has walked free from a court where he faced charges over a scuffle outside Long Bay Jail.

Hassan "Sam" Ibrahim, 43, was charged with malicious damage for allegedly smashing a news camera while collecting his brother Fadi Ibrahim from Long Bay Jail on Tuesday.

He was also charged with breaching his bail over the incident.

A former Nomads bikie chief, Ibrahim was granted $100,000 bail in July on charges of kidnapping and recklessly causing grievous bodily harm.

The charges relate to the alleged kidnapping and assault of a 15-year-old boy on April 1.

Applying for bail on Thursday, Ibrahim's solicitor Brett Galloway said the cameraman involved in the scuffle had been "harassed by police" from Strike Force Raptor, which was set up to tackle bikie gang violence after a fatal brawl at Sydney Airport in March.

"They (police) approached the cameraman and asked him to make a statement," Mr Galloway said.

"If they had thought (Ibrahim) committed an offence, then they would've arrested him on the spot," he told the court.

Mr Galloway said his client had been under intense pressure from the media for the past month.

"He had a camera pushed in his face, and he pushed it aside," he told the court.

Magistrate Anthony Spence said Ibrahim "should have been the last person" to collect Fadi Ibrahim from Long Bay.

Mr Galloway agreed, saying he would have advised Ibrahim not to do so but he had been well within his rights in picking up his brother.

In granting bail on Thursday, Mr Spence said Ibrahim was entitled to a presumption of innocence.

"It is not my lot to decide his guilt or innocence in this matter," he said.

He did not require any extra surety for the bail.

Outside court, Mr Galloway said Ibrahim's bail was only contested because of his surname.

"I can imagine in the ordinary ... damage case there'd be no opposition to bail," he told reporters.

"The fact that he's an Ibrahim is the reason I'm standing here and the reason why you're all here.

"Otherwise he probably would have been granted bail at the police station."

He called on the NSW government to "put a lid" on Strike Force Raptor.

On his release from the court on Thursday, Sam Ibrahim sprinted away from the media contingent, and was ushered into a waiting car, which quickly drove off.

His malicious damage and breach of bail charges are next due for mention at Waverley Local Court on December 16.

Fadi Ibrahim, who was shot several times in his car in July, is accused of conspiring with four other people to murder 37-year-old John Macris.

He was released from Long Bay jail on $1 million bail.
