Comrie to oversee Govt bushfire response

ABC November 4, 2009, 1:38 pm

The State Government has appointed the former Chief Commissioner of Victoria Police, Neil Comrie to oversee its response to the Bushfires Royal Commission.

Mr Comrie will audit the progress of Government agencies and departments, as they implement the commission's recommendations.

The Premier, John Brumby, says Mr Comrie will act independently and will report to the Royal Commission in March.

"I think the thing about the fire effort and the fire preparation is you've got so many Government agencies, and of course, you've got many volunteer and non-Government agencies," he said.

"I think it helps to have someone of his experience, who is there to oversee that process."
