Children have been evacuated from a school at Clifton, on Queensland's Darling Downs, due to smoke billowing from a nearby bushfire.
Ten rural and two urban fire crews responded to a fire on Pilton Valley Road, Pilton, near Clifton about 1pm (AEST) on Monday, Queensland Fire and Rescue Service said.
The fire was mainly burning in inaccessible areas but large volumes of smoke forced the evacuation of Pilton Primary School for a short period.Fire crews conducted backburning activities around the school and several homes as a precaution and a grader was also used to establish a firebreak near the school.
Eight fire crews remained on the scene late Monday afternoon, patrolling the edges of the fire, which had burnt approximately 200 hectares.Meanwhile, fire crews successfully protected about a dozen homes from a blaze at Hervey Bay, north of Brisbane.
The fire and rescue service said backburning would be conducted in the area on Monday evening.
