Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says the A1GP series' involvement with the Gold Coast SuperGP motor racing event will be independently reviewed.
A1GP racing ran into financial difficulties after its British arm was liquidated in England in June owing millions of dollars.
A freight company which is one of the company's creditors still has the cars locked up in England. The contract for A1GP cars to take part in the Gold Coast SuperGP this week alongside the V8 Supercars was torn up, and SuperGP chairman Terry Mackenroth has resigned.
"We are in the final stages of appointing an independent reviewer, and I'll look forward to making an announcement as soon as possible," Ms Bligh told reporters in Brisbane.Opposition Leader John-Paul Langbroek welcomed the review, which the opposition had been demanding.
"We welcome the fact the premier has followed our lead," Mr Langbroek told AAP."We've already written to the auditor-general.
"We think it's very important there be a review conducted into the way the contracts were awarded and the due diligence the government did."It should be a very thorough review and it (should) be done as soon as possible."
Mr Langbroek, who is also the Member for Surfers Paradise, said it was important everyone now throw their support behind the SuperGP's amended race program, which includes four V8 races and events involving some of the legends of motor racing.
