LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Four days after NBC abruptly canceled "Southland," chatter intensifies that the gritty cop drama may land at TNT.
The cable channel is an obvious choice as it shares a corporate parent with Warner Bros. TV, which make the critically praised series with "ER" producer John Wells. A disappointed Wells said last week that he was "actively looking" for a new home for the show.
"We continually look at all programming opportunities that fit our portfolio of brands," TNT said in a statement Monday.
"Southland," which stars Benjamin McKenzie, shot six unaired episodes of its second season before being shut down by NBC last week. The network said the show was too dark for its new 9 p.m. slot. The show aired last season at 10 p.m., but the weekday slot has now been taken over by "The Jay Leno Show."
TNT has been active in the cop drama genre, from its biggest hit, "The Closer" to its most recent offering, "Dark Blue." It has yet to decide on the future of "Dark Blue," which recently wrapped its first season.
