Bob Geldof took heroin by 'mistake'

Bob Geldof once took heroin by mistake.

The Boomtown Rats frontman made the revelation during an interview with The Guardian.

Geldof was speaking about his sporadic cocaine use during the Rats' early days when he briefly touched on the time he mistakenly took heroin - the drug that killed both his ex-wife and daughter.

"I couldn't do it (cocaine) before I went to sleep, I couldn't do it before I went on stage, and I'd get cramp, and coke has that dusty taste, and I didn't want that in my nose. I never did anything stronger, though I took heroin once by mistake," Geldof told the UK publication.

According to the article, Geldof said off the record that the heroin was given to him by "another singer, who gave him the drugs, then tried to get off with Paula (Yates) while Geldof was indisposed."

Yates and Geldof split in 1995 after 19 years of marriage over her affair with INXS frontman Michael Hutchence. She died from a heroin overdose in 2000.

Geldof's second eldest daughter Peaches died from a heroin overdose in April this year.
