Man furious after being rescued from drain

A California man is furious after police snapped pictures of him stuck in a drain, before helping him escape.

Jared Medeiros, 21, says the top half of his body became wedged in the drain when he went in after a lost phone; which was thrown there by gang members.

A neighbour phoned police after hearing Mr Medeiros' screams, and noticing the unusual sight from her bedroom window.

Another neighbour then called police, who arrived on the scene shortly after.

"Five cops came, and they all stood around looking at him because I don’t think they could believe what they were seeing." The neighbour told a local TV station.

Police arrived on the scene at 2.30 in the morning, only to find a pair of legs flailing helplessly in the air.

The legs belonged to Mr Medeiros, who had been stuck in the precarious position for over 40 minutes.

Police initially told local media the man had been drinking, but Mr Medeiros claims he was attacked by four gang members.

Mr Medeiros' upper body and head are covered with cuts and bruises, and he says he has no memory of his contact with police.

It's unclear if his injuries are the result of an assault, or come from his time spent wedged in the drain.

Speaking to local media Mr Medeiros said he isn’t happy with the way he was treated by police.

"I should have had medical treatment, I don’t know why they didn’t give me medical treatment".

The alleged victim is especially angry that police released a photo of him - or more accurately a photo of his legs – to the public.

"I don't understand why Ceres Police would sit there and take pictures," he said. "That kind of pisses me off."

A local police officer says Mr Medeiros refused treatment, and hasn’t filed a police report, Fox News reports.

"If we would have known from that day he was a victim of crime, we would never have released the photo or his name.
