Teen falls to his death while sunbaking

A 17-year-old British boy has fallen to his death after falling asleep while sunbaking on a hotel balcony.

Tom McNeill died in hospital after dropping from the first floor terrace at the Sunny Beach Black Sea resort in Bulgaria, the Daily Mail reports.

He had been on holidays with the family of his best friend when the incident occurred.

It was the first time the teen had taken a holiday without his parents.

His parents, David and Sallie, released a statement describing him as "the salt of the earth".

"He has left a hole in our lives that we cannot ever imagine will heal but he is with us in all we do," the statement said.

"He was the most wonderful and loved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, boyfriend and friend."

"Tom touched everyone he met in a quiet unassuming way and he had such a vision of what he wanted and where he wanted to go in life."

Friends have paid tribute on the teen's Facebook page while his parents will have to wait seven to 10 days before they can bring his body home.

A Polish tourist died in similar circumstances a week ago in Bulgaria.

The 41-year-old was apparently drunk when he fell from a fourth-floor balcony.
