Sydney man, 50, released without charge over alleged plane terror plot

A Sydney man who was arrested over an alleged terror plot to bring down a plane has been released after enduring days of questioning by detectives.

Khaled Merhi was arrested over one of the most allegedly sophisticated terror plots on Australian soil but after emerging from his Surry Hills home on Wednesday, he said his week-long interrogation week took its toll.

The 50-year-old, who was released without charge, didn’t shed any light on why his house was searched and cordoned off as a crime scene.

A Taser was found but he wasn't charged in relation to terrorism.

Mr Merhi’s relatives stand accused of plotting to smuggle a bomb onto an Etihad flight and a second alleged plan to use a poisonous gas on passengers.

Police have made no apologies about their heavy handling of the Sydney man.

As part of his strict bail conditions he must report to them three times a week.

"We are innocent Australians,” a supporter of Mr Merhi said.
