High-speed car chases ends with head-on collision in Queensland
A dangerous police chase in Ipswich has ended in a head-on collision and two men arrested.
Queensland Police said the young men had been using the highways like a racetrack in a Lexus they had allegedly stolen from a Goodna home.
PolAir tracked the vehicle along the Ipswich Motorway and Centenary Highway, allegedly travelling at high speed on the wrong side of the road, after officers spotted it at Goodna at about 6.50pm.
Driver Gabbie Wilson said seeing the car coming towards her 20 seconds before it crashed was one of the "scariest moments” of her life.
While Neinke Prime, who had her 18-month old child in the backseat, said she didn't see the car until the last minute.
"So there was no chance of us getting out of the way if he happened to swerve,” she said.
"Cop car after cop car after cop car - I'd say there was about 20 of them trying to keep up with him he was going so fast.
"The speed that guy was going someone could have been killed.”
The driver then crashed into 20-year-old Maranthea Raeli at Sinnamon Park.
Mr Raeli, who received minor injuries, posted on social media that it was "definitely the scariest experience” he had ever been in.
The driver and passenger then allegedly fled from the crash site.
One was found nearby, while the other was found in bushland and arrested in the front yard of a house.
Seven News understands a police dog bit one of the pair.
Mr Raeli and the two men, aged 20 and 22, were taken to Princess Alexandria Hospital.
The pair have been charged with four counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle whilst adversely affected by an intoxicating substance, failure to stop, possession of dangerous drugs, two counts of unlawful possession of stolen property and obstructing police.
