"Secret Service responding to an individual who jumped the bike rack along the North Fence Line of Penn Ave. Suspect in custody," it tweeted.

US President Donald Trump hosted Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan at the White House on Tuesday morning.

Protests against the Turkish president were held on the streets outside the White House, but Sky News reports Mr Erdogan had left the building before the lockdown incident.

A meeting and joint press conference with the two leaders was not affected and the security threat has since passed.
