Workers hurt in Ipswich meatworks blast

Three people have been taken to hospital after an explosion at a meatworks, west of Brisbane.

Police, paramedics, fire and rescue crews were called to the Lock Way site at Riverview, near the suburb of the Ipswich, about 9am, after a power board reportedly exploded in the face of workers at an abattoir run by industry leader JBS Australia.

Paramedics treated three people with burns, and two others for smoke inhalation following a reported electrical explosion, Queensland Ambulance said.

Two of the men who suffered burns were taken to the Royal Brisbane Hospital, and one of the workers treated for smoke inhalation was admitted to the Ipswich Hospital.

Each patient was believed to be in a stable condition.

The incident will be investigated by Workplace Health and Safety.
