Moment of inattention ends with woman's car in Perth river

A woman has been pulled from her sinking car after she veered off the road and into the river in Perth.

The woman, aged in her 50s, said she was checking her GPS on her way to pick up her daughter when the moment of inattention saw the Toyota Camry end up in the water.

The accident happened on Mounts Bay Road in Crawley after 5pm on Tuesday.

The woman had been travelling in a westbound direction when she took her eyes off the road, crossed over a footpath and went over the edge into the water.

Passersby jumped into the Swan River to help pull the woman to safety.

The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution.

A crane was called to the scene in a bid to pull the vehicle from the river.
