Young woman dies in Queensland tourist plane crash

A young woman has died after a light plane crashed at Eurimbula, north of Agnes Waters, in Queensland.

There were four people were on board the aircraft at the time of the crash.

7 News Online understands a woman, believed to be a backpacker in her 20s, died in the crash.

The Queensland Ambulance Service has confirmed the male pilot was airlifted to Bundaberg Hospital. His injuries are unknown.

One 29-year-old female passenger in a critical condition was flown to Rockhampton Hospital and is receiving treatment for a head injury.

A 13-year-old male passenger was also transported to Rockhampton Hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesperson for the Queensland Ambulance Service's Rockhampton Operations Centre said two planes were operating in the area when one crashed at Middle Island.

It's believed the other aircraft contacted emergency services after landing safely on the beach.

"The aircraft is a small plane and I believe it is involved in tourist activities around that area," Manager of the Rockhampton Operations Centre, Mindy Thomas, said.

"(It is) unknown at this stage what has caused the aircraft to come down."

Ms Thomas said "Middle Island is not easily accessible by road".

"There is one access point but it is dependent on low tide, so most of our resources have been sent via helicopter."

Two helicopters have been tasked.

Emergency crews were called just before 11am Tuesday.
