Tradie tackles alleged Melbourne milk bar thief in citizen's arrest
A brave tradie has tackled a thief armed with a knife who had just allegedly robbed a milk bar.
The Melbourne man said he did not think twice stopping the person escaping after robbing the small shop.
The crook allegedly threatened the defenceless milk bar owner with a knife then stole her laptop.
Jarred Possle was at a nearby chemist when he heard the woman's desperate cries for help.
"It was just natural instinct to try and help," he said.
The thief was running across the road, the store owner following but struggling to keep up.
When the masked man stumbled around the corner, a tradie was waiting.
"We both hit the concrete about here," Mr Possle told 7 News, indicating the ground where the citizens' arrest began.
"He was struggling to get up, trying to fight me off.
"A couple of blokes drive past, they jumped out and helped me hold him down."
The citizens held the man down until police arrived, at which point they realised he was carrying a knife.
It was not the first time thieves have targeted the milk bar, with owners thankful for the local hero's quick actions.
"They're giving me free stuff in there from now, so, can't complain," Mr Possle said.
