Seal jumps on whale-watching boat to escape pod of orcas
A lucky seal slipped its way on board a whale-watching boat in Canada, hitching a ride to escape a pod of orcas captured in a remarkable video.
Sightseers were thrilled when the spotted seal hopped on board the Campbell River Whale and Bear Excursions boat, run by Nick Templeman, CBC reported.
The group had been watching the orcas on August 22 for about 30 minutes before the killer whales decided to go hunting.
Mr Templeman managed to capture two videos of the seal cowering on the boat while off the coast of Vancouver Island.
In the first video, the seal made a fuss, splash and eventually pulled itself onto the vessel and its beady eyes looked up at shocked, but thrilled sightseers.
In the second video, Mr Templeman put his GoPro underwater and managed to catch a glimpse of the pod, waiting for their lunch.
It is believed the seal fell off the boat three times and after 45 minutes the orcas gave up and the spotted creature went on its way.
"This seal was tossed around a few times and taken under quite a bit before seeking refuge among the boats in the area," Mr Templeman told the news station.
"The orcas kept sounding and coming up right behind the boat, searching."
The video was uploaded to YouTube by user Kirk Fraser.
