Bodies of mother and baby boy who plunged from Melbourne balcony to be returned to India

WARNING, DISTRESSING CONTENT: The bodies of a mother and baby boy, who died after its believed she jumped from a high-rise apartment balcony in Melbourne, will be returned to India.

Supraja Srinivas, 31, and her four-month-old son Shrihan were discovered at the bottom of Melbourne’s City Point apartment building last Thursday.

Srinivas’ husband Gannaram Srinivas broke down at the scene, after he learnt his wife and son had died, according to the Age.

Emergency services arrived at the 29-storey building on 668 Bourke Street in Docklands just after 10.30am Thursday.

Police believe Srinivas was clutching on to her son as she jumped from the sixth floor of the building.

Mr Srinivas was admitted to hospital after collapsing at the scene.

He is a software engineer for Indian outsourcing company Tech Mahindra.

A bystander from Geelong told The Age she had heard screams after the fall.

"A lady went into the alleyway and then there was some screaming," Christine Harms said.

"I just kept hearing 'Oh no. Oh no'. It was gut-wrenching to hear."

Authorities are expected to investigate whether the death was a murder-suicide and the possibility that Ms Srinivas was suffering from post-natal depression, according to the Courier Mail.

Police do not believe anyone else was connected to the deaths.

Melbourne Crime Investigation Unit detectives will prepare a report for the coroner.

The family is now preparing to take the two bodies to India.
