Body located in Queensland quarry

A body has been located today as part of a search for a missing 16-year-boy at a quarry in the Collingwood Park area.

Police have confirmed that the body is of missing 16-year-old, Duncan Wilmott.

Wilmott was playing with friends when he dived into the quarry at a private property at Collingwood Park near Ipswich about midday on last Monday.

Ipswich district duty officer Sergeant Paul Andrews said teenagers who were with the boy saw him briefly resurface before going under the water.

QLD and NSW police divers located the body at a depth of 32 meters in Blue Lake around mid afternoon today.

Police say this tragedy should serve as a warning and that swimming on private property where submerged hazards pose a threat is an unnecessary risk.

One of the teenagers who accompanied Duncan to the quarry and who frantically searched for him when he disappeared, Shane Alston, posted to a Facebook tribute page his despair at not being able to find him.

"I'm sorry I turned around and went back to the surface, I'm sorry I let you sink bro 😢😢😢 I cry all the time," he wrote.

Police have urged people not to swim in the many disused quarries in the region.

More details to come.
