Truckie misses runaway baby stroller by centimetres on intersection in Sydney's west

FIRST ON 7: A toddler is lucky to be alive and a truckie free of grief after he dodged a stroller that rolled into an intersection in front of his truck in Sydney's west.

B-double driver Toufan Masoudi was driving in Blacktown when the baby pram ran onto the road in front of him.

A man darted on to the road to catch the pram, but they were too late. Luckily, the truckie was not too late to react.

"I froze for a second, I didn't know what to do," he told 7 News.

"The fastest thing I could do was pulling into the right lane and stopping."

The dashcam captured the near-deadly impact as the pram disappeared from the camera's line of sight and Mr Masoudi kept rolling forward while veering right at the intersection at Third Avenue and Prince Street.

"I missed it by less than half a metre I think, and this is after I pulled up to the right lane."

The footage serves as a warning to parents walking with strollers near roads and on train platforms where they can easily roll away into danger.

Kids Safe CEO Christine Erskine told 7 News parents need to be wary and use strollers' safety devices whenever possible.

"If you are walking with a toddler or have a toddler in a stroller use all those safety devices," she said.

"Make sure you hold on tight, put the brakes on when you stop and also have that tether strap on your arm not on the arm of the toddler."
