Sydney siege sniper revisits Seven news building

This is the man who patiently waited for nearly 17 hours watching and monitoring Man Haron Monis during the agonizing Sydney siege.

The sniper, looking down the scope of a high-powered rifle, monitored the movements of a madman and was poised to pull the trigger if the command was given.

He uttered those terrible, immortal words, which brought the terrible event to its conclusion- ‘Window Two, Hostage Down’.

Seven's Martin Place studios were evacuated that day and night and today surrounded by the staff from Sunrise and The Morning Show with the newsroom below on Level Three the police sniper offered a brief account of his role that night.

He exclusively told Seven News: "...and I just used that as a support for my rifle."

The sniper, whose identity will not be revealed, was quizzed, on the record, by Homicide Detective-Inspector, Mark Dukes.

"Sorry, can you just show us exactly... yeah, yeah... so, just about here I....."

"The interview was recorded on police video and overseen by a detective from Professional Standards.

"So, four windows from left commenced 1, then 2, 3, 4."

Seven News has given an undertaking not to reveal the sniper's identity and to withhold sensitive information from the interview.

‘The interview is just a tiny part of what has become a colossal investigation.’

Hundreds of witnesses have been spoken to formally witnesses, hostages, the police who stormed the building that night, negotiators, commanders, Channel Seven staff including one staff member from the Lindt Cafe who was only minutes away from starting her shift.

Police will return to the Seven studios to take laser measurements from the sniper's perspective.

They'll use them to enhance a high-tech, 3-D model of precisely who was where.. inside the cafe and out.. at 208am on December 16.
