Paraguay pocketless suit draws attention to corruption
Asuncion (AFP) - A Paraguay clothing store is leaving the pockets out of the chain's latest line of suits as a protest against corruption.
?Let honesty be fashionable,? advertisements for the anti-corruption suits read in the shops of Robert, a popular high-end clothing store in Paraguay?s capital Asuncion.
The pocketless "Ibanez" suit made by Roberto Espinola, refers to Jose Maria Ibanez, deputy of the ruling Colorado Party.
Ibanez was prosecuted for corruption after admitting he used public funds to pay employees at his lavish residence.
The orders have rolled in since the store debuted the model, Espinola said.
"I created this suit as an expression of disgust, I'm disgusted by the many examples that privileged politicians like this give us," he said.
Corruption issues have plagued Paraguay, a land-locked poor country, for years.
Espinola said he expects to launch a ladies cut of the suit, "Lady Ibanez," in reference to the legislator's wife who was also involved in the latest corruption scandal.
