Refugees threatened at Syd soccer training

A group of Afghan Hazara refugees have been verbally abused and threatened by a knife-wielding man at soccer training in Sydney's west.

The group of young men were at soccer training at King Park in Merrylands on Tuesday when a 29-year-old man running through the park questioned them about their ethnicity.

He then began bellowing abuse at the teenagers and called them "Muslim terrorists" according to Islamophobia Register Australia.

After a brief altercation, the teenagers chased the man away before he returned with a knife, threatening to stab them.

Police said a man was arrested and charged with affray, intimidation and use of an offensive weapon.

The man will appear at Fairfield Local Court on November 5.
