Dramatic freeway chase ends in crash

An innocent motorist is in hospital and a police officer has been injured after a dramatic pursuit down Adelaide’s South Eastern Freeway this afternoon.

The chase began when police stopped a suspected stolen car in Mt Barker just after midday.

A woman was driving the vehicle and when officers tried to arrest a man in the passenger seat, he allegedly took the wheel and sped off down the freeway.

The vehicle was pursued by police for 20 minutes before the vehicle collided with an innocent motorist near the toll gate at Glen Osmond.

After the collision, the suspect fled but was quickly tackled by an officer who was injured in the drama.

Josh Liubinskas, 33, was the innocent motorist caught up in the crash and was rushed to hospital.

His father Jack told 7News: “It’s one of those moments where police need to stop these people and I totally agree with what the police have done.”

The woman in the car was taken to hospital and has been released by police without charge.

The alleged driver has been charged with a series of driving offences.
