Baby Bentley sets hospital record

Mum delivers super-size bub

A NSW mother has had a super-size surprise after delivering one of Australia's heaviest newborn babies.

Bentley Dahlstrom tipped the scales at a whopping 6.3 kilos - more than double the average weight of a newborn baby.

A record breaker for Tamworth hospital, Michelle Wharram delivered her big bundle of joy via C-section.

"My first reaction was what? Are you serious? I couldn't believe it," she said.

Bentley has fast become a celebrity on the maternity ward.

This morning he featured in the local paper and now he and his adoring mum are making waves on television.

"He is adorable. He is a blessing. He is beautiful."

Bentley's parents have already had to buy new clothes - newborn 000 sizes are a bit of a tight squeeze.

"I had to send a friend down yesterday to get all new clothes for him," Michelle said. "They fit him pretty good now."

Perhaps, not surprisingly, Bentley loves his tucker.

"He has gone straight onto the bottle," Michelle said. "I don't think I'd have the milk to keep up with him."

Ultrasounds gave Michelle some hints to the size of her little big boy.

Bentley will drive home with mum tomorrow.
