Bizarre behaviour blamed on ecstasy

Police believe a bad batch of ecstasy could be behind a string of bizarre behavior in Adelaide, including people stripping naked, one person licking the floor of a nightclub and another acting like a chicken in a taxi.

A total of 21 people were admitted to hospital between Saturday night and Sunday afternoon with drug-related symptoms, including one who remains in a critical condition.

Among the more bizarre behaviour reported was that of one man who was pulled from the River Torrens naked on Saturday night after stripping off and jumping in.

Superintendent Anthony Fioravanti from SA Police said Saturday night had been more violent than normal, with officers reporting more fights had occurred than normal.

Police said they are worried by what the ecstasy tablets contain.

“We are concerned about the contents of the tablets, and we have the analysis of the tablets being fast tracked and they are currently being examined by the forensic services section,” he said.

Police said they will put more officers on the city beat and continue dog operations.

More than 30 tablets were seized when police arrested a man yesterday, but they are still investigating if they are linked to the batch believed to be responsible for the string of strange behaviour.
