Car torn in half in crash with ambulance

A car has been torn in half after colliding head-on with an ambulance that was on its way to an emergency.

The crash happened on the Nepean Highway at Frankston just before 11pm last night.

Ambulance spokesman Trent Eckhardt told Seven News the impact of the crash split the car in two.

The ambulance was also badly damaged.

"We found one of the vehicles was split in two halves, with one half in the trees and the other half out on the road," he said.

Mr Eckhardt said it was lucky no one was seriously injured in the crash.

The 21-year-old driver and occupants of the emergency vehicle were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

"It’s very surprising the occupants have walked away from the incident," he said. "On arrival we expected much worse."
