Woman Suffers Acid Attack

A woman who allegedly had acid thrown in her face by her own father this weekend is now fighting to save her eyesight.

Onlookers were said to be horrified after 49-year old Darlene Lynch was seen running onto the street screaming this weekend outside her father's Brooklyn apartment.

The incident occurred after Ms Lynch had gone to visit her ailing 69-year-old father Jerome Lynch to prepare him some food, according to New York Daily News.

She was sitting on a couch in his home when he allegedly approached her with what she believed was a cup of water and threw it in her face.

Not long afterwards she felt a severe burning sensation and rushed into the street with smoke rising from her body.

Her neighbour Clarisse Shakespeare said everyone was "traumatised and scared" when they saw her.

"Her skin looked like melting wax. And then her whole eye lid was melted. The whole left side from her face all the way down to her feet," she said.

Ms Lynch is expected to survive the attack but could lose her left eye.

Jerome Lynch, who has significant health problems since suffering a stroke two years ago, confirmed to police in a note that he had attacked his daughter with a cup of drain cleaner.

He claimed to police that his daughter had been abusing him but relatives said he has become delusional in recent years.

He has been charged with felony assault.
