Accused father-son duo burglar bailed

A man alleged to be part of a father-son burgling duo has been granted bail with a hefty $350,000 surety.

Christopher See, 56, of NSW, and his adult son, Phillip, were charged with serious burglary offences after Sydney Police last month uncovered a treasure trove.

More than $2million and close to a million in foreign currencies was found hidden in an apartment, as well as gold and silver bullion, 3,000 pieces of jewellery and even hand guns.

Melbourne Magistrates' Court was told most of it was stolen from an Ivanhoe storage facility on December 3, with See allegedly standing watching while his son cut open up to 40 safety deposit boxes.

He told his father in a recorded phone call he'd be 'shell-shocked' by the loot, the court heard.

See, a public servant and part-time cab driver, faces strict bail conditions including a curfew, daily reporting to police and a ban in having any contact with his son, who is in custody.

Magistrate Jack Vandersteen told See this was not a bluff, and if he breached his bail conditions, his brother would have to cough up the $350,000 surety.

See has to live with, and care for, his elderly mother in Sydney until his next court appearance in March.
