Mum overdosed on Lemsip

A British woman died of liver failure caused by paracetamol overdose after creating her own cocktail of the painkiller washed down with cough medicine and Lemsip, an inquest has been told.

Donna Bishop, 25, took the deadly cocktail every day after she got sick two weeks before Christmas last year.

Her GP diagnosed a chest infection on New Year’s Eve and prescribed antibiotics.

The inquest at Worcestershire Coroner’s Court was told Donna went to Scotland before Christmas to visit her friend Siobhan Dunn, the Daily Mail reported.

Miss Dunn said Donna was taking "high" amounts of over-the-counter drugs and she had been sick several times, which prompted her to take even more medication.

Donna's condition deteriorated rapidly after she returned from Scotland. She went to hospital complaining of mouth ulcers and difficulty swallowing, was given some medication and she went home.

Her sister took her back to hospital the next day when she found Donna at home unwell and jaundiced but left because of a long waiting list to see a doctor, the Daily Mail reported.

She went back when her condition deteriorated and was admitted.

Nurse practitioner Andrew Eggleton told the inquest that Donna denied taking paracetamol but she died later that day.
