The Perth businessman behind the failed fuel technology company Firepower has complied with a Federal Court order compelling him to hand in any passports or travel documents he holds.

Tim Johnston disappeared overseas around the time Firepower collapsed.

Yesterday, the company's liquidator confirmed federal authorities caught up with him at his Gold Coast home.

They had given him until midday today to hand in any passports or travel documents which would help him leave the country.

About 1200 shareholders, many from Perth, invested up to $100 million in Firepower which promoted a fuel additive designed to reduce vehicle emissions.
