Another boat carrying asylum seekers has been found in Australian waters.

The Federal Government says the boat was detected 35 nautical miles north of the Tiwi Islands, near Darwin.

It appears 16 people are on board.

The Government says the group will be taken to Christmas Island for health and security checks.

It is unclear where the people are from.
