A murder charge has been dropped against a teenager accused of killing a driver in a road rage attack.

Jamie Tuutasi Pana Faga, 19, had been in custody at the Adelaide Remand Centre.

He has been in custody since March on allegations that he bashed Tim Chadwick, 28, to death at Darlington in May last year.

Prosecutors tendered no evidence on the murder charge in Adelaide Magistrates Court.

In a statement, Director of Public Prosecutions Stephen Pallaras said the evidence did not give a reasonable prospect of conviction.

Mr Faga's family clapped when the decision was announced in court.
