The Queensland Hotels Association says it expects a Brisbane hotel's controversial stance on violent patrons to be adopted by other licensed venues.
The Chalk Hotel is taking civil action against patrons involved in an alleged glass-related assault at the weekend - and says it will sue anyone committing assaults in the future.
Hotels Association Chief Executive Justin O'Connor says the move is a Queensland first - and a step in the right direction."The bottom line is that they are illegal acts, they are violent acts and we need to take early intervention and stamp them out and we will support our members or other members of the community to that end. "
The hotel is replacing regular glassware with tempered glass but says that will do little to stop violent behaviour.Mr O'Connor says there has not been enough focus on the obligations, responsibilities and accountabilities of individuals for their own behaviour.
