ACT Attorney-General Simon Corbell is refusing to confirm or deny reports that Chief Magistrate Ron Cahill is at the centre of a police investigation.

In a statement, Mr Corbell says a matter was brought to his attention on October 23 which he referred to Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Jon White.

The DPP then passed it on to police.

Police have confirmed that senior officers are investigating alleged actions by an ACT public servant.

A spokesman for Mr Corbell would not confirm or deny whether the public servant is Chief Magistrate Cahill.

The ABC has been unable to contact Chief Magistrate Cahill or the DPP for comment.

The Canberra Times is reporting that a case due to be heard by a visiting Victorian magistrate was aborted last week because the magistrate revealed he had received a detailed background briefing on the case.
