Manly skipper Matt Orford has been spurned numerous times but he is still prepared to put his hand up for State of Origin selection should NSW seek a new halfback for the final match.
Orford, the 2008 Dally M winner, has never played Origin football but with current Blues halfback Peter Wallace under siege following lacklustre displays in the losses in games one and two, the No.7 jersey appears to again be up for grabs for game three in Brisbane.
And the 31-year-old, who answered questions about his big game temperament in last year's grand final win, said on Tuesday he would still love to play for his state."To play for your state or your country is a massive honour and I've never hidden away from that," Orford said.
"I've sort of always said that takes care of itself but obviously I've never been in their plans and that's just how it goes."But Orford did not believe Wallace should automatically be dropped just four games into his Origin career, saying selectors should stick with players during tough periods.
"There's always going to be tough times in Origin but they've got to stay solid and fight through these tough times," he said."You are going up against a quality Queensland team and everyone needs to be aware of that."
