Sydney landmarks the Queen Victoria Building, Luna Park and the city's Town Hall will soon be heritage listed, the NSW Government has announced.
NSW Planning Minister Kristina Keneally said the three architectural treasures would be added to the State's heritage register by the end of the year, after consultation between Heritage Council of NSW and their owners.
"Listing these wonderful icons will give them protection from unsympathetic renovations, extensions and demolition, ensuring they remain safe for future generations to enjoy," Ms Keneally said."Consultation will ensure any heritage listing of these properties will not affect the day-to-day operation, minor works or maintenance of the buildings."
Lord Mayor Clover Moore welcomed the announcement."Sydney Town Hall together with the QVB represents the civic heart of Sydney," she said.
"As custodians of these buildings the city has a duty of care to preserve and protect them."SYDNEY AAP
