Brisbane backrower Ben Te'o is facing a three-match ban after being charged with a dangerous throw in the Broncos' heavy NRL loss to Cronulla.

Te'o was placed on report after dumping Nathan Stapleton on his head in the 58th minute of the 46-12 win to the Sharks at Toyota Stadium.

The former Wests Tigers forward was charged with a grade two dangerous throw and can accept a two-game ban with an early guilty plea.

But he risks a three-match ban if he opts to contest the charge at the NRL judiciary.

Broncos forward Josh McGuire was also charged with a grade one careless high tackle in the loss but can escape suspension with an early guilty plea.

Melbourne rookie Dane Nielsen can escape with a one-match ban for the high tackle which saw him sent from the field in Sunday's NRL win over Wests Tigers.

Nielsen was charged on Monday with a grade four careless high tackle for his 77th minute hit on Tigers winger Beau Ryan, referee Ashley Klein showing little hesitation in sending the 24-year-old centre from the field.
