Fulham lament Glory clash of dates

The manager of English Premier League club Fulham has revealed his concerns over the impact the club's trip to Australia will have on its European preparations.

Fulham will take on Perth Glory at Members Equity Stadium on July 15 at the end of the tour, which includes games against new A-League outfit Gold Coast United (July 8) and champions Melbourne Victory (July 11).

Manager Roy Hodgson, who guided Fulham to their best finish of seventh place in the Premier League last season, acknowledged the Australia trip had made preparing for their first Europa League match on July 30 more difficult.

"We didn't know we were going to be playing in Europe until the last match in May, and by then plans for Australia were in place," Hodgson told a British newspaper.

Fulham will fly back to London after their match against Glory, leaving them two weeks to recover and prepare for their Europa opponents.

Glory coach David Mitchell hopes to have his entire squad available for the clash with Fulham and the July 10 match against Wolves, although the same cannot be said of Friday's friendly against Adelaide United at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Mitchell could be missing defenders Jamie Coyne and Scott Neville with groin tightness as well as midfielder Victor Sikora, who is recovering from a minor knee operation. Major signings Andy Todd, Mile Sterjovski, Jacob Burns and Branko Jelic are yet to join pre-season training.
