Cycling's world ruling body have announced that five cyclists had tested positive for doping through the pioneering biological passport scheme.
Former world road race champion Igor Astarloa of Spain is among the five riders, according to the International Cycling Union (UCI).
The news comes just over a fortnight before the start of this year's Tour de France, being held July 4-26.The five riders will become the first athletes to face doping charges on the basis of irregularities found in various blood parameters on their respective biological passports.
