Perth Glory have signed Socceroos star Mile Sterjovski from Derby County.
Sterjovski, whoscored for Australia in their 2-0 World Cup qualifying win over Bahrain in Sydney last night, will be the club's marque player and is a huge addition to the Glory squad ahead of the new A-League season which starts in two months' time.
The 30-year-old striker played in France, Switzerland and Turkey before moving to England, where he was part of the Derby side which was relegated from the Premier League just over a year ago.He caught the eye with an impressive display for Derby in thefirst leg of their Carling Cup semi-final victory over Manchester United in January this year and his signing is a huge coup for Glory coach Dave Mitchell, who has already brought in Sterjovski's former Derby team-mate Andy Todd and SerbforwardBranko Jelic from German side Energie Cottbus.
Sterjovski, who will now turn his attention to Australia's final World Cup qualifier against Japan in Melbourne next Wednesday,is likely to join up with the Glory squad at the end of the month.Gloryare set toconfirm the signing at a media conferenceat aSydney hotel at 7.30am (WA time) tomorrow morning.
