Overnight rain ends June sunny spell

Downpours across Perth overnight and throughout this morning have proven a welcome boost, with 22.2mm of rain falling overnight in Mt Lawley.

Bureau of Meteorology climate information officer John Relf said the overnight falls brought Perth's rainfall tally for the year to 101mm and have ensured Perth was no longer experiencing its driest January to June average on record.

Yesterday was Perth's wettest day since July 30, 2008 when 30.6mm of rain fell.

Shortly after 11am, June's rainfall total stood at 34.8mm.

"Obviously that (figure) is going up because it's still raining," Mr Relf said.

This month's sunshine has been plentiful in comparison to previous June's, Mr Relf said.

"Normally June has the least sunshine month of the year with an average 5.9 hours of sunshine a day," Mr Relf said.

"Up until yesterday there was 8.2 hours."

After today's showers, Mr Relf said Perth residents might want to get their electric blankets ready as some very cold nights were on the horizon.

He said fine weather was forecast until Wednesday but overnight minimums were likely to fall to 3C on Saturday, Sunday and Monday nights followed by 4C on Tuesday and Wednesday nights.
