"Actress Hilary Duff is heading to New York City's Upper East Side.

According to _Entertainment Weekly_'s TV insider Michael Ausiello, the starlet will appear in multiple episodes of _Gossip Girl_ as Olivia Burke, a high-profile movie star who enrols in New York University seeking a traditional college experience.

Olivia winds up sharing a room with Vanessa (Jessica Szohr), and Ausiello suggests she'll become romantically entangled with one of the teen drama's male leads (played by Chace Crawford, Penn Badgley and Ed Westwick).

Duff will make her first _Gossip Girl_ appearance in the fourth episode of season three, slated to air in the US on October 5.

Duff first came to fame in the kids' TV series _Lizzie McGuire_, and later went on to try her hand at a pop career. She's recently made appearances in several other high-profile TV series, including _Law and Order: Special Victims Unit_ and _Ghost Whisperer_. Earlier in 2009 she filmed a pilot titled _Barely Legal_, about an 18-year-old lawyer, though it was not picked up for a full series.
