Market expected to open weaker

The Australian sharemarket is expected to start the week lower after falls on US and European markets on Friday.

The US Dow Jones index closed about 1 per cent lower at 12,746.

Oil finished the week on a record high, with West Texas Crude worth almost $US126 a barrel.

The Australian dollar is slightly lower in early trade, buying about 94 US cents.
