Toddler hospitalised after hit by car

Police are investigating a traffic accident that has left a young child seriously injured in Queensland's east.

The four-year-old boy was with his mother in a shopping centre car park near Gladstone when he was hit by a four-wheel drive.

Police say the driver was unaware that he had run over the child until after the accident.

The boy has been taken to hospital with head injuries.
