City tower safety concerns after glass pane falls

A Brisbane city councillor says safety issues with an inner-city tower need to be sorted out quickly.

A pane of shattered glass fell from the 19th floor of Waterfront Place yesterday but no one was injured.

The State Government says it is the fifth window to fall from the building since November.

Local councillor David Hinchcliffe says the current situation is not good enough.

"BCC [Brisbane City Council], the State Government and Stockland, the owner, need to get together and sort this out," he said.

"This is an iconic building in the centre of Brisbane, it houses the offices for the Prime Minister and the Treasurer, it's one of the most important building in the city and we simply can't have glass falling from this building on to the street below."
