Dog day for SA

Retired and graduate guide dogs are to be honoured at a ceremony in Adelaide as part of international guide dog day.

More than 100 people and at least 30 dogs will walk along North Terrace to Adelaide Oval to celebrate.

Marcus Gehrig from the Guide Dogs Association of SA says the march will acknowledge the work of guide dogs.

"The international guide dog day march is all about celebrating the work of guide dogs throughout the world and the differences that they make into the lives of people who are blind or vision impaired," he said.

"To train a guide dog takes between 17 and 24 months and the cost of training it up to the date that we match the guide dog with a client is in excess of $25,000 and that funding is give to us from the generosity of the general public.

"We don't actually receive any government funding."
